If your dog ate a small amount of plain cheese, it is generally not an emergency. A larger amount may cause digestive upset, particularly in dogs that are sensitive to dairy or fat. Monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort.
Why we say this
Cheese is not inherently toxic to dogs, but its fat content and lactose can cause digestive problems in some dogs. Different cheeses also vary substantially in fat, sodium, lactose, and added ingredients.
